The Touch of Truth

As meditation transforms into samadhi, the Touch of Truth, there comes a sense of freedom; the energy in the body gets released and creates phenomena that hooks the seeker into continuing this process that has the ability to bring about that magical Touch of Truth. The seeker wants more. The energy is released more. He or she surrenders more. And so on it goes. Things continue to happen, at first, with the body itself. With the energy freed, the body becomes free and begins to move, to go into various postures and movements, to make sounds, to laugh, to cry, to sing, to dance, and to become drunk with ecstasy.

But our seeker is not alone. Others are aware of what our seeker is going though, and they become curious. Our seeker may have shared these experiences or been observed or both. This is all very appealing to these onlookers and they become intent on achieving this experience themselves. So they try to see what our seeker is doing, thinking that if they can duplicate what they see, they can also experience the Touch of Truth for themselves. From their point of view, what they see appears to be the way to do things in order to get this to happen. So they do these things the way they see them being done. In other words, they use meditation techniques — certain ways of doing things in order to get certain results.

At some point in time, other successful seekers, sages, come along and try to preserve this knowledge by passing it down to devoted students. A difficulty arises: those who are not aware of the origin of meditation, hear or read these teachings and interpret them as instructions, meditation guidance, on how to do these things, these techniques, and which ones to do when. This was not the original intention of the sages at all. The sages just wanted to show us what happens when we surrender our bodies, our minds and our energy and feelings to that "something higher and greater" that is behind all of life and creation.

So you see, meditation techniques for achieving the Touch of Truth have their origin in surrender to the higher and greater — some call it God, but it doesn't matter what label you put on it. Meditation itself didn't even have a label in the beginning of all of this, but eventually it became known as the process of attaining Truth and was called meditation.

Meditation is so important in our lives today. It is the panacea for all ills. And music is an integral part of meditation.
